"Assessment results merely provide a limited measure of performance obtained at a particular time" (Miller, LInn, Gronlund 2013)
The Problem that arises from the questions about reliability comes into focus when considering consistency. If a test is given and students are not performing around or very near to the same score each and every time they take the test, then reliability comes into question. Regardless of the type of assessment provided, (test re-test, split half, etc.) the student's score should be consistently similar with each result. If the scores are not consistent, we should question its reliability.
For Example (using test re-test):
A conclusion can be made that this test is not internally reliable since the same student scored two drastically different scores. If the test had reliability then the score would have been similar. |
